Program Overview

Shrub Oak International School offers a variety of programs, including both day and residential options. Students are grouped into cohorts based on their individual profiles, enabling us to develop individualized programs tailored to each student’s unique social, academic, and therapeutic needs.

Each cohort is designed to foster a sense of community and belonging, allowing students to build meaningful relationships with peers who share similar experiences. This approach enables our educators, clinicians, and campus life staff to tailor instructional strategies, therapeutic supports, and extracurricular activities to the specific needs of each group, promoting optimal growth and development.

Day Program

The day program at Shrub Oak International School offers a comprehensive experience that includes academics, life skills development, and therapeutic services. Just as in our residential program, students in our day program have access to our farm, life skills house, playground, fitness facilities, and more.

Residential Program

Shrub Oak’s residential program provides students with a continuum of care that extends well beyond the school day. Surrounded by experts who care, Shrub Oak residential students benefit from around the clock supervision complemented by an after-school curriculum that incorporates independent living skills, social development, and relationship building. Each student has their own spacious dorm room in a secure environment supervised by campus life staff. In addition, our experienced security team monitors campus 24 hours a day to ensure a safe and secure environment for students and staff.

Our residential program offers a structured and supportive environment tailored to each student’s individual needs. After-school activities are thoughtfully designed to complement and reinforce what students learn during the day as well as provide students with an opportunity for recreation and social interaction. These activities are intentionally structured to enhance students’ acquisition of ADL (Activities of Daily Living) skills by providing hands-on opportunities for practice in real-world settings. Whether through cooking, teamwork, or creative projects, students build on the academic and life skills gained in the classroom, promoting independence and confidence in their daily routines.

Students particularly enjoy spending time on our farm, practicing daily living skills at our Life Skills House, attending movie nights in our auditorium, and participating in regularly scheduled community outings.

Students in both programs benefit from participating in special activities including student showcases and Prom!
