Aloha Party: A Festive Farewell to Summer

Shrub Oak International School recently bid a joyful farewell to the summer season with a vibrant and memorable Aloha Party, celebrating in true Hawaiian style. Organized by our dedicated recreation team, the event was a perfect blend of relaxation, excitement, and community, creating a fun atmosphere that brought our Shrub Oak ohana (family) together.

The celebration took place outdoors, just outside of the Life Skills House, where the beautiful summer weather provided the backdrop for our luau. The party was divided into two time slots to accommodate our diverse student body. This structure ensured that every student had the opportunity to participate in the event.

The party was a feast for the senses, beginning with engaging activities that had our students fully immersed in the spirit of the event. Students played a lively game of field soccer, demonstrating teamwork and enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the rhythmic beats of Hawaiian music set the tone for a lively hula dance session, where students gracefully moved to the music, embodying the traditional dance of the islands.

No luau would be complete without a spread of delicious and healthy treats. Our students were treated to a colorful array of fresh fruits and vegetables, paired with a refreshing fruit punch that perfectly complemented the warm weather. The highlight of the evening, however, was without question the “Sorbet Ice Cream Time.” When the announcement was made that it was time for sorbet, students ran, eager to enjoy the cool, sweet treat. The sorbet was not only a delicious way to cool down, but also a healthy option that aligned with our commitment to providing nutritious choices for our students.

In addition to the recreation team, the event was supported by our amazing dining and nursing departments, who joined in the festivities with the same enthusiasm and aloha spirit. Their presence reinforced the sense of community that is so integral to life at Shrub Oak, where staff and students alike come together to create a fun and supportive environment.

The Aloha party was more than just a fun event; it was a celebration of the connections and bonds that make Shrub Oak such a special place. We extend a heartfelt mahalo (thank you) to the recreation team for organizing such a wonderful event. We will carry the Hawaiian spirit with us into the school year ahead. It was an evening that truly embodied the essence of aloha, bringing everyone a sense of belonging as we said goodbye to summer in the most festive way possible.
