Honoring Women’s History Month at Shrub Oak International School

At Shrub Oak International School, we take pride in honoring Women’s History Month by providing our students with opportunities to recognize and celebrate the achievements of women throughout history. This month, we are engaging in activities that highlight influential women, encourage creativity, and foster camaraderie among our students. Through hands-on projects and special outings, we are working to create meaningful experiences that will help our students to learn, express themselves, and enjoy time together.

One of the most impactful ways we celebrate Women’s History Month at Shrub Oak International School is through our Art Club’s special project. Our students explore the lives and contributions of women they admire, choosing figures from history, sports, entertainment, and even their own families. Through artistic expression, they create pieces that showcase these women’s strength, perseverance, and influence. Some students painted portraits of historical icons such as Rosa Parks and Amelia Earhart, while others designed collages featuring inspiring quotes from Maya Angelou and Beyonce. Several students chose to honor the women in their lives: mothers, sisters, friends, teachers, and caregivers, illustrating their appreciation for the women who have had a direct impact on their lives. This project not only provides a creative outlet but also encourages our students to reflect on the importance of female role models in shaping their aspirations and values.

In addition to our artistic celebration, Shrub Oak hosted a special Girl’s Day outing, giving some of our female students an opportunity to enjoy a day of relaxation, fun, and friendship. The day began with a trip to a local salon, where students chose between manicures and pedicures, selecting colors that reflect their personalities and styles. The experience gave them a chance to unwind and enjoy a bit of self-care in a comfortable and social setting. After their spa treatments, the group headed to a nearby shopping center, where they browsed clothing stores, picked out accessories, and shared in the excitement of finding new favorite items. To cap off the day, they enjoyed a pizza trip, sharing laughter, conversation, and delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere. Girl’s Day was not only a way to celebrate Women’s History Month but also an opportunity for our students to bond, build confidence, and feel empowered in their own individuality.

Throughout March, we reinforce the significance of Women’s History Month by engaging our students in discussions about gender equality, female leadership, and the ongoing contributions of women across all fields. Whether through art, social outings, or classroom conversations, we make sure to honor the impact of women in ways that are meaningful and accessible to our students. These experiences encourage them to appreciate the strong women in their lives and recognize their own potential to make a difference. At Shrub Oak, we remain committed to fostering an inclusive and inspiring environment where all students feel valued and empowered.
