Police, Fire, and EMT Meet & Greet at Shrub Oak International School

Shrub Oak International School was excited to host a “Police, Fire, and EMT Meet & Greet” event on campus this month as part of our efforts to educate our students about emergency services. The event provided our students with the invaluable opportunity to meet and engage with essential members of our local community, including police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). This interactive experience was designed to familiarize students with these public service professionals, understand the critical roles they play, and learn how to seek help when needed.

In small groups, students had direct interactions with these first responders, allowing for a more individualized and focused engagement. Each student had time to ask questions, explore different aspects of first responder positions, and build comfort with these important community figures. Our goal was to foster an understanding of the various responsibilities these professionals carry and to assuage any anxieties students may have when it comes to asking for help in emergencies.

At Shrub Oak International School, we believe that creating safe spaces for students to interact with members of the local community can significantly impact their confidence and sense of security. Learning when and how to approach a police officer, firefighter, or EMT is important not only for personal safety but also for developing a broader awareness of community resources available to them. This aligns with our commitment to providing comprehensive learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom, enhancing life skills and community engagement.

The event also was designed to encourage curiosity and inspire students to learn more about public service careers. Through hands-on demonstrations and open conversations, students gained insight into the day-to-day responsibilities and challenges faced by these professionals.

The “Police, Fire, and EMT Meet & Greet” is another example of how we at Shrub Oak emphasize real-world learning experiences. By offering this opportunity, we are helping our students connect with the larger community, reinforcing the idea that they are supported by many people beyond their immediate circle of support. This event exemplifies our holistic approach to education, where learning social and practical skills is as important as academics.

We are grateful to the local police officers, firefighters, and EMTs who took the time to join us and share their knowledge and experiences. Their involvement in this event not only strengthened the relationship between our school and the wider community but also helped our students feel more comfortable and informed. We hope every student walked away with a deeper understanding of how to seek help, who to approach in different situations, and how these dedicated professionals contribute to making our community a safer place for everyone.

As we continue to create meaningful opportunities like this one, Shrub Oak International School remains committed to building connections that enhance our students’ confidence and comfort level. We look forward to more events like these in the future, as we work together to help create a more inclusive world. Check out our Instagram for pictures!
