Shrub Oak International School Summer 2024 Field Day

Shrub Oak International School recently hosted a vibrant and engaging Field Day, a much-anticipated event that provided our students with an array of outdoor summer activities designed to promote fun, social interaction, and sensory enrichment. As a school dedicated to supporting the unique needs of autistic students, we understand the importance of creating a supportive and stimulating environment where students can thrive. This year’s Field Day was no exception, offering a variety of activities that catered to different interests and sensory preferences.

One of the highlights of the day was the bouncy castle, a favorite among our students. The bouncy castle provided a safe and enjoyable space for students to engage in physical activity, helping to improve their coordination and balance. Jumping and bouncing also offered a therapeutic outlet, allowing students to release energy and experience the joy of movement in a controlled and supervised setting.

Water play was another popular feature of our Field Day. With the warm summer weather, water activities provided a refreshing and fun way for students to cool off while engaging in sensory-rich experiences. Water tables, sprinklers, and splash zones were set up to accommodate different levels of comfort and interaction. Some students enjoyed the tactile sensation of splashing in the water, while others preferred the visual and auditory stimuli of watching the water flow and listening to its sounds. Water play is not only enjoyable but also supports sensory integration, helping students to process and respond to sensory information more effectively.

In addition to the bouncy castle and water play, we organized a variety of other outdoor activities to ensure that there was something for everyone. Lawn games provided opportunities for students to practice their motor skills and hand-eye coordination. These games also encouraged social interaction, as students cheered each other on and took turns playing. For those who preferred quieter activities, we set up shaded areas with sensory-friendly materials, such as textured fabrics, and toys.

Our staff played a crucial role in making Field Day a success. From planning and setting up the activities to providing support and encouragement throughout the day, our team was dedicated to ensuring that each student had a positive and fulfilling experience. We made sure to tailor the activities to the individual needs and preferences of our students, recognizing that they are each unique and may have different ways of engaging with their environment.

Field Day at Shrub Oak International School is more than just a day of fun; it is an integral part of our commitment to holistic education. By offering a variety of outdoor activities, we aim to promote physical health, social development, and sensory integration. Our recent Field Day was a testament to the vibrant and inclusive community we strive to create, where every student has the opportunity to explore, play, and grow in a supportive and nurturing environment. As we continue to plan future events, we look forward to building on the success of this year’s Field Day and creating even more memorable experiences for our students.
